Managing trees on your property
For properties with several trees, the concern is often knowing what needs attention, what can be retained and monitored, and how to organise future inspections.
A tree condition and safety survey provides clear findings and proportionate recommendations. The scope can cover a single tree, school grounds, a residential estate or a larger managed site.
Existing tree schedules and previous reports are useful when reviewing changes over time or coordinating inspections across several properties. Surveys can be arranged as a one-off assessment or as part of a planned programme.
Where findings justify closer assessment, decay investigation and Resistograph testing can be agreed separately.
Tree reports for planning and development
If you are extending a property, changing a site layout or planning a new development, early tree advice can help inform the design.
A BS5837 tree survey and report considers trees in relation to the proposed development. The agreed scope may include an Arboricultural Impact Assessment, Arboricultural Method Statement and Tree Protection Plan.
For sites within Wokingham Borough, the council publishes a local list explaining the documents required for planning applications. Its planning submission guidance is a useful starting point. For projects elsewhere in Berkshire, requirements should be checked with the authority handling the application.
Send the latest drawings and any planning correspondence. If the design has changed since an earlier tree report, include that report so the scope of an update can be considered.
Buying a property near trees
If a lender or surveyor has requested a mortgage tree report, send their exact wording, the property address and your deadline. This helps establish the questions the report needs to address.
